Currently ACDEP is a network of over forty agricultural, water, rehabilitation, health and nutrition projects spread around
the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. The Secretariat is located in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region.
Almost 9 out of 10 citizens of the Upper East and Upper West Regions are poor and 7 out of 10 are poor in the
Northern Region. These compare unfavorably with Southern Ghana. For example, in Greater Accra it is 1 out of 10 people
how are poor and 1 out of 2 in the Central and Eastern region. In many of the rural Savanna areas, the situation of the very
poorest has worsened and inequality has increased in recent years.

* Poverty is defined as a standard of living with fewer resources than ¢900,000 (approx US $100) per equivalent adult
per year in order to satisfy minimum food consumption as well as minimum non-food consumption. Of the
total ¢900,000 (approx US $100), ¢700,000 (approx US $78) go to meet the absolute minimum food requirement per adult per year.
