The Secretariat has five thematic areas that support the development work of stations and rural communities: Agriculture,
Gender, Health & Social Services, Market Access and Monitoring & Evaluation.
ACDEP member projects are identified with two major areas; agriculture and health and social service. The latter are
engaged in primary health care, nutrition, and the promotion of economic activities among rural women.
The ACDEP Secretariat has facilitated the adoption of sustainable agricultural production strategies by the agricultural
projects. The main strategies are the promotion of low external input and sustainable agricultural production methods
with increasing use of organic material and bio-pesticides and decreasing use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides.
Since 1995 the Secretariat has promoted the use of participatory technology development approach as the main agricultural
development strategy among stations.
